LOVE NEVER FAILING
Even though a devastating fire destroys a senior citizens building, dislocating hundreds of the elderly--God used this disaster to build them a new home of joy, peace and love.
The Golden Touch Home for the Aged, located in a town near the city of Manila, cares for around 160 senior citizens. Three weeks, the wards became homeless after a two-hour blaze struck the establishment. The entire building had been burned.
An old electric transmitter exploded in front of the structure. A cottage which houses the elderly people, some of them bedridden, and the laundry room where gutted by the blaze. A flaming electrical wire had broken loose from a post and fell onto the clothesline where bed linen was hanging. The blaze quickly spread to the other cottages where the men and women where housed.
Because of the incident, a quick and organized evacuation of the elderly was carried out. Other homes for the aged, including the St. Anthony's Elderly center mobilized their personnel to help and rescue these people.
A meeting among the directors of various homes for the aged was called and a consensus was reached where the hapless victims were temporarily "adopted" by the other homes pending the completion of a new building for them. Right now, we have an additional 38 elderly men and women, whose needs and welfare our now our responsibility because of this disastrous fire.
Feeding these 38 souls will definitely affect our already depleted resources, but we depend totally on God's mercy, grace and presence every moment of our lives. We are comforted by the thought that God never fails. We never lose sight of the fact that our God comforts us so we can comfort others. This is the best form of recycled love, a wonderful mystery that is giving joy, peace and order in this world.
NOTE: St. Anthony's Elderly Center, dedicated to the care of the aging poor and handicapped, is one of NLEC's overseas outreach missionary ministries.
